The Truth About Tap Water (& Why You Should Try Hallstein)

As a holistic nutritionist who has devoted her life to testing and sharing all things health and wellness, one of my number one tips is to drink water regularly. You’ll find countless blogs in which I discuss the importance of hydration because it can significantly impact so many aspects of our well-being. So, you can imagine my shock when I read this new study by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
TLDR: The USGS tested drinking water samples nationwide and found at least 45 percent contaminated with “forever chemicals.” These synthetic chemicals, known as PFAS, are commonly found in products like non-stick cookware, stain-resistant carpet, and raincoats. While PFAS are great for commercial and industrial uses, they are not meant to be ingested, hence why this study has shaken up so many people.
PFAS break down very slowly, meaning they can build up easily in the environment or inside our bodies. Further, researchers have associated certain PFAS with negative health effects, such as an increased risk of certain cancers, increased risk of obesity and high cholesterol, reduced immunity, hormone interference, decreased fertility, and developmental effects in children. So, PFAS are definitely something we want to avoid as much as possible. But how? Before I talk about Hallstein Water (my favorite!), let’s get personal for a moment.
Unintentional Heavy Metal Hydration
As I mentioned, hydration is everything. Still, while I’m always trying to do good for my body by drinking water and eating hydrating foods, sometimes other less obvious factors can cause harm simultaneously. Alongside the discovery of PFAS in tap water, heavy metals are often also present.
Not too long ago, I took a heavy metal blood test to maintain my regular self-monitoring. Initially, I didn’t think I needed to be too concerned with my results, measuring lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and chromium levels. I thought I’d be in the clear, especially since I eat a primarily plant-based diet, limit my rice intake (a common source of arsenic exposure), and even have a home water filtration system. However, to my surprise, my results had irregular readings.
After some detective work, I learned that even though I have a reverse osmosis filter for my home water supply, which should theoretically purify the tap, it’s not enough. Even with the filter, some heavy metals are able to bypass the system and cause my heavy metal levels to be off-balance. So, I’ve turned to Hallstein Water more than usual as a solution, and it has quickly become a staple in my daily routine. Hallstein Water offers a reliable hydration alternative that aligns with my commitment to maintaining a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle – free of concerning heavy metals.
Choosing to Hydrate with Hallstein Water
Purely Sourced
Hallstein Water stands as a testament to uncompromised purity. It is sourced directly from a pristine aquifer 700 feet below the earth’s surface at the base of Austria’s Dachstein mountain. Completely untreated and unaltered, it is the purest drinking water available, providing a range of health benefits that set it apart. Hallstein Water is entirely free of PFAS and microplastics, protecting us from health risks.
High Natural Alkalinity
Additionally, Hallstein Water is distinctively alkaline, significantly contributing to maintaining a balanced pH level within the body. With a pH of 8.3, it helps neutralize the acidic elements we encounter daily, promoting overall well-being. Hallstein Water’s high alkaline content aligns with the optimal pH range of 8 to 9.5 for a truly health-enhancing drinking water experience.
Low Sodium Level
What further sets Hallstein Water apart is its low sodium content. While sodium is sometimes added to raise pH levels, Hallstein Water maintains a naturally high pH level while containing only 0.15 mg/l of sodium, ensuring it’s safe for infants and doesn’t contribute to hypertension concerns in adults.
Dissolved Oxygen and Total Organic Carbon
Hallstein Water’s high dissolved oxygen (DO) adds a refreshing taste to every sip. With a DO level of 10.8 mg/l, it provides a certain crispness often missing in tap water, which tends to have lower DO levels due to preservation needs for water pipes. This high DO content enhances the taste and signals purity and low levels of total organic carbon (TOC). Its low TOC score of 0.09 mg/l speaks to its exceptional purity, minimizing the risk of bacterial contamination and further promoting its healthful qualities.
Nitrate Levels
Federal regulatory bodies are not strict enough with their nitrate level requirements. Despite the high maximum accepted nitrate levels, Hallstein Water has nitrate levels (1.83 mg/l) well below them. So it’s safe for everyone to drink.
Total Dissolved Solids
Hallstein Water strikes a balance with a moderate total dissolved solids level of 84 mg/l, providing a natural mineral source while avoiding excessive levels that could impair taste or health.
Calcium to Magnesium Ratio
The body absorbs calcium and magnesium in a 2:1 ratio. Hallstein Water has this optimal 2:1 mineral ratio of calcium, ensuring effective absorption by the body.
Exit Temperature
Importantly, the low exit temperature of Hallstein Water, at 5.6°C (41°F), highlights its source’s quality. Cooler exit temperatures signify cleaner water, and Hallstein’s adherence to this principle aligns with its commitment to source water sustainability.
